Tech Editing
As Tech Editor I work together with the designer to produce a clear and correct pattern. The clearer the pattern, the more people take pleasure in executing the pattern and the less questions the designer gets.
When editing a pattern I check the following things:
- Does the pattern contain all necessary information so readers can start immediately?
- Is the text spelled correctly, easy to understand and error free?
- Does the pattern consistently use the same abbreviations and are these correctly explained?
- Are all stitch counts correct for all sizes?
- Are all the links to videos and websites correct?
- Does the end product look like the picture?
- Are the written instructions the same as the charts and the other way around?
And that is not all, I can also assist in setting up a standard pattern, a standard list of abbreviations etc.

Grading
Grading is the porcess of createing a range of sizes from a single sample size in a garment design. I start with a pattern or a sample in one size and start grading it to multiple sizes. The final knitted result should have the same characteristics in size small as in size XL, so if it is a loose fitting sweater it should be loose fitting in every size. All details must be the same too. Having up to 11 sizes in a pattern is becoming the standard.

Pattern writing
I do not design, but I can write a complete pattern from your design notes. Combine that with grading and you will receive a pattern in multiple sizes. I can also adapt patterns to a new style sheet or add sizes to an existing pattern.

Translations
I trained as a French – Dutch translator. Over the years I translated a lot from French and English into Dutch but also the other way around.
So I can translate your patterns from and to Dutch, English and French. Contact me to discuss the possibilities.
Costs
I charge an hourly fee for all these services. I round up to the nearest 10 minutes. A simple pattern will take me an hour or two, the more complex the pattern, the more time it will take. Grading, pattern writing and translating also take a bit more time.
